Pink Me Parties: yet another reason to thank your lucky stars that you live in the magnificent Metropolitan Seattle area. If you are already a Söliv customer and have been inundated with pleas to share a few precious drops from your fountain of youth, gather together your closest buddies – especially the ones who have thrown in the (face) towel on the skincare industry – and give me or the Institute a holler.
We’ll post an Evite, and when the special night arrives, greet you at the Söliv Institute, located near the University Village, with champagne and goodies. You’ll cleanse with our special face bar, lie back in our comfy easy chairs, and enjoy a treatment of Vital Gel Therapy, fondly known as the pink stuff. Feel the skin pull back onto your bones. After you rinse, finish with a dab of Sea Foam moisturizer. Take a look in the mirror and say, “Welcome Back!” to the dewy complexion of yesteryear.
If, later that night, someone comments that you look in the pink of health, you can say, “You have no idea!” But when you tell them, “We got really tight!” you might have some explaining to do.
It’s useful for our regular Söliv customers to have the occasional brush-up on application methods, not to mention how fabulous it feels to let someone else treat you for a change!
If you live a ways from the Institute (not an ocean’s throw, mind you), we may be able to bring Söliv to you. …Especially if you’ve already pinked – er, I mean piqued – the curiosity of your local spa.
Planning a bachelorette party? You and your bridesmaids will emerge from your shower with ocean-fresh complexions. (They might even forgive you for those gowns.)
Bachelor party guests would love it, too, of course. What a great way to put color in your cheeks before embarking on that final escapade!

Time and Tide Wait for No Man (but Söliv can help!)
The once promising Metrosexual movement, although it went a little overboard, has been declared dead, in case you haven’t heard. Macho is back. Personally, I hope men won’t give up their newfound amour-propre without a fight. It would be too bad if the trendsetters shamed them into waiting another fifteen years for permission to purchase skincare products without risking a public ribbing.
Seattle men never really cottoned to the Metrosexual lifestyle, but you don’t have to be a modern-day Beau Brummell to care about looking healthy – and younger. Even a Macho guy can love Söliv. Our products are free of irritating preservatives and perfumes, good for the environment, and fast-acting. They are also particularly effective on rosacea – one of the scourges of older skin. I just spoke to yet another client who went to the refrigerator one day to discover that her boyfriend had used up her Vital Gel Therapy. And once men discover the foaming, exfoliating cleansing bar for shaving, they never use anything else.
The FMO (For Men Only) line is specially formulated to treat the coarser texture of a man’s skin. As one male first-timer (a man’s man, I might add) declared, “My face feels so good – light and fresh. I felt a smile wanting to come out. The whole experience has been uplifting!”
A forty-something male client who has used our products for four years running related the following story: when he had the bags removed from under his eyes, the doctor took the liberty of using a laser on the outer corners, resulting in abnormal wrinkling. All the doctors he consulted told him the damage was irreversible, although he might expect some results from Botox.
Then a friend referred him to Söliv’s founder, Diane, who started him on a regimen that included the cleansing bar, FMO Vital Gel Therapy and Sea Foam Moisturizer. He noticed a difference immediately, and after four months of regular use, the improvement was dramatic and obvious to everyone around him. He’s been a believer ever since.
I asked him, has he recommended the product to his guy friends?
“I have,” he said, “but it’s one of those things that takes discipline. They would need to be sufficiently motivated, like me, and see the effect on their own faces. You have to stick with it and use it properly. I use it daily every morning for twenty minutes. I have my ritual. I’ve often thought if Söliv were to go bye-bye, there would be no replacement. There’s nothing I, or anyone I’ve talked to, knows of that is remotely as effective. The plastic surgeon also told me it was impossible. I wouldn’t want to risk not using it at this point. It’s part of my life. Overall, it’s just great. Everything has improved. It tightened everything up. It improved the tone… It’s phenomenal. My main comment is: find me a substitute product that does the same thing. Where is it? It doesn’t exist!”
We love hearing client stories about unusual uses for the Vital Gel Therapy. There’s one use I’m not going to spell out for you. Give a man a product that “takes the wrinkles out” and you know what he’ll do. From what I hear, it works wonders.

Vital Gel Therapy 101
I was one of those four-year-olds who, in coloring books, had trouble staying within the lines. The kid sitting next to me painstakingly produced little dots and dashes to create an illusion of texture. He was the Seurat of Preschool. Probably grew up to make those Photomosaic portraits – the ones comprised of a zillion tiny photographs.
If, like me, you had crayon issues, you may also feel that the whole Vital Gel Therapy routine has way too steep a learning curve. Unlike the folks I wrote about last week, you have the time, just not the talent. Or so you think.
Help is here! Söliv’s website now includes a two-minute Flash File Demonstration of how to apply Vital Gel Therapy.
And BTW, are you looking for even faster results? Then apply VGT every day, use the special Söliv brush, and don’t stint on quantity. Two coats should do the trick. Think of it as an investment in the integrity of your skin. If you do take a break from using VGT, you may lose ground, but most of the healing and tightening you’ve already experienced is there to stay.
One longtime client I interviewed admitted she sometimes lets the VGT treatments slide for months at a stretch. Overall, she’s thrilled by her results. Saggy skin runs in her family, and by the time she turned forty, she already looked old. Söliv transformed her face, and especially her eye area.
“I used to have a deep groove down my cheek, which is pretty much gone,” she told me. “But I’ve been a little bit bad. I would use it for a while, then not, then start up again. When I’m being good, I use it all the time. I wish I’d used it every day. Your face never goes back to its original state pre-Söliv, but it won’t look quite as good, and it won’t keep improving. It does bounce back much more quickly when you start up again. I’d probably be further along like these other people I know if I’d been more consistent.”
So… if you’ve been taking a break, get back into the groove(s). When it comes to your skin, anyway, there’s a surefire way to smooth over the cracks.

Introducing... Vital Gel Moisturizer
This time of year, many of Söliv’s customers suffer from “White Rabbit Syndrome.” This has nothing to do with the Easter Bunny, but rather Alice’s guide, the one addicted to checking his pocket watch and lamenting his tardiness.
Everyone has days – or weeks – when there’s no time to kick back and indulge in even twenty minutes of Vital Gel Therapy. So Diane has dreamed up a new way of splashing around in the Fountain of Youth. We call it “Pink,” or officially, Vital Gel Moisturizer. It’s Sea Foam Moisturizer meets Vital Gel Therapy in one easy formula. While not designed to replace VGT treatments, it’s sure handy in a pinch.
BTW, our website will soon include a flash file demonstration of the most effective application of Vital Gel Therapy. Although there is a best way, the worst way is no way. Take advantage of the freshness of your VGT and use it now. Even applied imperfectly, Vital Gel Therapy will make a dramatic difference in the quality and tightness of your skin. It’s uplifting in every sense of the word.
If you think you are following the instructions you were given to the letter but still find application tricky, try using one of our brushes. They simplify the process and intensify the results. Brushes (not currently listed on the website) cost $6 for a large and $1 for a mini. Both work great and are reusable. E-mail us at info@soliv.com or call 206-270-0112.

Chill! Refrigerating your skincare products is easy as pie
People who think nothing of visiting the fridge at midnight for that last piece of pie may still draw the line at the idea of a refrigerated skincare regimen. And yet this is what separates Söliv’s Sea2Skin™ products from the pack: they are highly bioactive. What does this mean? That they are as close as you can get to being alive.
When it comes to fruit and vegetables, it’s a given that cooking and processing reduces the number of vitamins and deactivates enzymes. When I was in grade school in the sixties, cafeterias gave spinach a bad name by serving the canned stuff (so beloved of Popeye) and boiling it into a noxious mush redolent of Soylent Green. The current generation of school kids help themselves from salad bars.
Mark my words: in ten years, skincare will undergo a similar sea change from processed to live, and Söliv is leading the way.
Söliv’s proprietary ingredient is harvested from red macro-algae and immediately refrigerated or frozen to keep every last vitamin, mineral, enzyme and antioxidant alive and kicking. (And this stuff is teeming with them.) So please don’t ask us to make your life marginally easier by reducing the effectiveness of our products!
Most of our customers get used to visiting their refrigerators as part of their morning and evening routines, but if you are not one of them, consider buying a small refrigerator for your bathroom. These are widely available for between $20-60. Just be sure that it holds temperatures below 48 degrees. When we have finished investigating which model works best, we plan to offer it on our website.
While traveling, tote your products in a refrigerated gel pack and, once you arrive, use the mini-bar. (Warning: check with the hotel first to make sure they don’t charge you just for opening the thing!) Or… place your products on ice, as you would a bottle of champagne. If you are traveling by car in winter, store your products under the seat. But, as ever, we’re looking out for you. In the future, you will be able to order our moisturizer, vital gel therapy and serum in single-use packets ideal for travelers. (Our cleansing bar does not need refrigeration.)
One of our longtime customers, a frequent flyer, loves to tell the following story: once, after boarding the plane, she realized she had left her Söliv Vital Gel Therapy behind in the hotel mini-bar. Airline officials, informed that their passenger couldn’t depart without her “life-saving medicine,” actually sent a messenger to retrieve it. He presented it to her on a silver platter. Although we don’t encourage holding up airline flights, we can’t help but be flattered by this degree of dedication!

An Interview with Souzan Seshima
Souzan Seshima is a certified medical esthetician at Ageless Center for Rejuvenation, located in Seattle’s Fremont area. Souzan has been treating patients with Söliv products for six years.
How would you describe the typical Söliv client at your salon?
Most of my patients are middle-aged women who are either peri-menopausal or menopausal and people who have skin compromised by Rosacea or severe dehydration.
How long does it take to achieve results?
We get instant results. The first application, people notice a big difference in their skin, and that’s remarkable, because many products make claims boldly in their packaging, and yet, when it comes down to the actual application, the results are disappointing. So when you have a product that causes people to sit up and see a real difference, it’s remarkable.
What kind of results do you see in the eye area?
The eye area is really problematic because it is the thinnest tissue on the body. Many, many companies have tried to put out specific formulas to address darkness, puffiness and lines. Some people find relief, but others come to believe eye creams are a waste of time. Frankly it’s been my experience that the one and only thing I can count on consistently – like pulling a rabbit out of my hat – has been Söliv. Generally, as a practitioner, I don’t even prescribe eye creams because I really don’t find them that efficacious.
Do you think Söliv penetrates better than most products?
It does penetrate, that we know, I think because of its very structure. The amino acids go to work very quickly to repair skin, and I think they work very well in the eye area in particular because the skin is thin and the capillaries are really close to the surface. Because of this, the product can go to work very quickly.
Have you observed a tightening effect?
Yes, definitely, especially for post-menopausal women and men who are middle aged. However, anyone can derive benefit from Söliv. I believe it to be a whole food benefit to the skin. But I think in terms of tightening and fattening the skin, the earlier we start the therapy, the better results the person is going to see.
What about general skin tone?
When the product is applied, you get an immediate change in skin tone, in part because the circulation is revved up. In those with lackluster, dull skin, you can really see an improvement in circulation, and therefore in the overall tone and color of the skin. When you put this product on, you see immediate difference in the overall tone of their skin.
Do you notice a difference between clients who use the product consistently and those who have slacked off?
As Diane says on her website, the more you do, the more results you’ll see. It’s cumulative. If you use this product often, you’re definitely going to see results. We’ve seen results at the first application, three days after that, a month after that and three months. The problem is compliance, getting people to use the stuff and use it correctly. This is the skill we try to translate to the patient. People hoard it like gold.
Are there clients who do not see results or have allergic reactions?
Where other therapies fail, Söliv has come through for me, especially for patients with a compromised barrier – that is, if the upper layer of the epidermis is compromised due to congestion, dehydration, acne or Rosacea. People with sensitivities to fragrances and preservatives find most products to be too irritating. Söliv has been a godsend in my practice, in that I can use it on everyone with excellent results. In all the years I’ve been using it, I can only think of two who were dissatisfied: one who had serious immune issues and probably would have found anything irritating, and the other, a younger client with really thick, oily skin who may not have applied the products consistently.
Any final thoughts?
I can honestly say that this is one of the most remarkable products I’ve seen in the last decade, and I’ve been in skin care for seventeen years. I also love the fact that ecologically it’s a wonderful thing, the way that it’s grown, the way it’s extracted, the respect for the plants, the waters that are flowing back into Puget Sound cleaner, and with a higher oxygenated content.
